The Sacred Heart of Jesus with the French motto, “God the King” was used as a sign of resistance to the French Revolution. Members of the Vendean royalist insurgents would wear patches on their clothes (which eventually marked them for martyrdom). Today this symbol is worn by those who are devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and who protest the spirit of the French Revolution that is found in modern secular ideals.
