Book Review: Christmas!

All art © Magnificat/Ignatius Press

In my last blog post of the year, I have another Christmas book for you! This one is geared for your youngest littles, and is a beautiful introduction to the Christmas story.

Christmas! by Maïte Roche is yet another of her simple and sweet board books, and a wonderful addition to have in our Catholic book collection. It deals mainly with the shepherds, their flocks, plus their families (an addition which I love!), visiting the Child Jesus, who has been born in a stable. They come to adore this “tiny baby.” My son loves both the words tiny and baby, so that is his favorite part. Especially when you pronounce it ‘tiiiiiny!” There are no angels mentioned, but the star and the Magi make an appearance at the end.

Maïte’s illustrations in this story are deep into beautiful blues and purples, with touches of pink. Her characters are all very cute. Mama Mary is serene, Joseph looks prayerful, and baby Jesus is so sweet. And then there are all of the lambs and sheep- my favorite of the animals! If you are a fan of Maïte’s style, you won’t be disappointed with this one.

I just ordered another copy of Christmas! for a gift this year… if you are thinking of doing the same, find all of the info below!

Meet Adalee
Mom, Freelance Illustrator, and Catholic Author Adalee Hude is passionate about children's literature and gets giddy over good art. She spends most of the day with her very bouncy boy, evenings with her beloved Mr. H, and sneaks into her Brightly Hude Studio early in the morning, with a strong cuppa tea.
Some of the books covered here were sent to her gratis by publishers especially for the purpose of review, but are her own opinions, given with appreciation of the craft.
