Now for something a little bit different! Instead of a book review today, I thought a book preview would be fun. Women Doctors of the Church is due for publication in 2022, from Our Sunday Visitor, by author Colleen Pressprich. I have just interviewed her- check that out here! I happen to know a fair bit about this book, as I am the illustrator. I’ve just finished the main paintings for Women Doctors, and I’m currently working on some small edits, adding gold, etc. Here are some sneak peeks for you to enjoy! There are four women who have been named Doctors of the Church, by the Catholic Church- Hildegard of Bingen, Catherine of Siena, Teresa of Avila, Therese of Lisieux. The title “Doctor of the Church” has been bestowed on a small number of people who have made significant contributions to Catholic theology or doctrine through their writings.
I am having a blast illustrating this book! When I first heard about the project, the Holy Spirit was kind enough to have granted me a “vision” of what it should look like, and I have been pursuing that design ever since, as best as I can. My art inspirations include Art Nouveau/Alphonse Mucha, medieval illumination, and artist Kellog Sloops.
